How Can Water Leaks Affect Your Home?

The most common water leak is probably a leaking faucet. Leaking faucets seem harmless, but they waste water and money on your utility bills. Small leaks can add up to big expenses over time. Generally, getting leaks fixed as soon as they are noticed will save money in the long run.

While leaking faucets can be expensive, they rarely cause damage to your home in ways that other leaks can. Leaks that happen inside of cabinets, walls, concrete slabs, or sewer lines can quickly cause severe damage to your property. Leaks allow moisture to build up in closed spaces. Humidity contributes to mold growth that can quickly get out of control and present a health hazard. Excess moisture also damages drywall, flooring solutions, and structural wood by causing them to warp or rot. Mildew and odors can be difficult to get rid of when water is allowed to accumulate over long periods.

At Goodbee Plumbing Inc., we use the latest technology to detect and repair leaks. Whether you are wasting water with leaky faucets or you are concerned you have a hidden leak; we have the knowledge and tools to fix it.

What Causes Clogged Drains?

Many drain clogs can be blamed on miscellaneous items that should not have been in your pipes in the first place. However, even while making every attempt to keep foreign matter out of your drains, you may still experience clogs. Hair, grease, soap scum, and toilet tissue all tend to cling to drain pipe walls and create clogs.

At Goodbee Plumbing Inc., we’ve helped countless customers over the years with clogged drain service. We use the latest proven methods to unclog your drains when they are stopped up. We also can be scheduled for maintenance cleaning to keep your pipes clean so you don’t have to worry about them in the future.

What is Backflow

When water reverses the direction it flows in pipes, that is called backflow. Plumbing systems are only designed for water to flow in one direction, so if the pressure changes, the water will move the wrong way and can create health and safety risks. Keep reading to learn about the importance of backflow prevention.

The Importance of Backflow Prevention

While many people are unaware of the dangers of backflow, most homes and businesses have equipment that protects the water supply from backflow conditions. Backflow arises when wastewater is allowed to flow backward into freshwater infrastructure. This water can then contaminate the fresh water and potentially exposes consumers to dirty, bacteria-laden water.

At Goodbee Plumbing Inc., we are licensed and certified to perform inspections on backflow preventers. If you have concerns about your backflow prevention device or need to have your regular inspection done, don’t hesitate to call for our same-day services.

Types of Backflow Preventer Assemblies

If you want to control the direction the water moves in your pipes and prevent backflow, there are several methods, including

  • Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB): PVB is the most common backflow prevention method and is very easy to install and maintain. However, they can eject water and are therefore not recommended for indoor use.
  • Double Check Valve (DCV): DCVs can be used inside and outside and can be either vertically or horizontally to fit however you would like. They are a bit more expensive than PVBs.
  • Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly (RPZ): PRZ is the most expensive type of water backflow preventer, but they are also the most reliable. They are also ideal for working with irrigation systems since they are safe to use alongside landscaping chemicals.

If you live in an older home, you may not have a water backflow preventer, so be sure to call Goodbee Plumbing to get yours installed as soon as possible. If you are living in a newer property, you are required to have one, but if you aren’t sure which type is best for you, the experts at Goodbee are ready to help!
